I think that the cases Haley and Marita are the different according to with intention or without intention of plagiarism.

Haley’ intention was to commit plagiarism without reveal. If she looked at and began her assignment early, she may be not pressed for time and be finished her work without cheating. Under the probation which she already has stated, she committed plagiarism again because she considered getting better grades and coming up to her parents’ expectation. Also, she who is senior student knew well enough academic plagiarism which must not do and is academic integrity. In despite of recognizing these facts, she plagiarized another person’s writing from website. Therefore it is obvious that she is committing plagiarism with the intention.

However, Marita do not her assignments with the intention. Marita also wanted to do well her assignment. Even though she did not fully understand about her homework, she gathered reference sources from library and the encyclopedia and reported the last page of her paper in her own way. It is clear that Marita also committed plagiarism. But she is a freshman in university and has a problem her first assignment whether her paper plagiarizes. If she knows to use reference well, she may not make a mistake. Therefore, unintentional plagiarism has to be escaped the penalty in Marita case when we consider how matters stand.
