It seems that such the numerical values should be an enough data to show us that the site is very popular and famous. Moreover, many students and educators say that they could turn out plagiarism through this site. Therefore, students could prevent them from committing plagiarism, and also educators could find easily the students who commit it. They all insist that turnitin.com is a valuable and effective site.
However, I think using the website is not desirable to both students and educators because the use of it can make them distrust. Also, I think the use of the website by educators might stimulate students to do the action of cheating and plagiarism more technically.

At last week, I got a violating signal ticket from police. So, I got to go to a court. This is really waste of time, money and my energy. The police caugt me in the OSU campus. Furthermore, it was near to main library. What a stupid and insane police !! Indeed, in that time, the cars in front of my car had left turn. Therefore, I just followed that car but the idiot police caugt only my car. Still, I do not think I did anything wrong. I am really think that american police has too useless pride even though police is nothing and so easy job. I am not complaining just for my situation and case. I saw many bad cases and situations relating to police. They are really need to change the mind. However, I really doubt whether they can change or not because their IQ is pretty similar to dolphin. What they doing now, even elementary students also can do. Every stupid police need to remind why they become a police.

I think the tutorial is really great. I never know there are that many different type of citation out there that we can use. I actually agree with all the stuff that’s on the webpage. One of the page said start the paper early, so we don’t run out of time. I really believed that every body should have done that. Most of the time, I messed up on a paper is because of time matter. I always think that I know that stuff already and by the time I found out that I don’t, I don’t have time to ask the professor. I think the webpage design were fantastic, I wish I could of done that. For the graphics part, I think they should have added more music or sound onto it; they also should have added more animation into. This week went pretty well for me, I got two midterms this week. One of them was English, and the other one were Economic. Since I didn’t get me English paper back yet, so I have no idea how I done on it. However I did got my Economic midterm back, I received an “A” on it. That’s was my first time receiving an “A” on Economic classes. I was happy about that. Finally next week will be my easiest week, because I don’t have any final on next week. Usually I will have at least one midterm per week. Enough information on school already, now I will talk about my own time. This weekend I went back to Cleveland to help out my parent and earn little bit of extra cash. One of the things that I am really happy about this weekend is that Apple is dropping the Ipod price. After I found that out, I order one for my self and other one for my sister.

However, from this site, I could get some instruction of plagiarism. First, what I learned was finding out what plagiarism was. As an example, the site explains that it is not plagiarism if you use a direct quotation into your paper, place quotation marks, and then credit the source. Also, what I interested in was how to cite or use common knowledge. Especially in science subjects, according to the instruction of the site, common knowledge does not need to be cited. Finally, the site gave me the correct way to distinguish between quoting and paraphrasing in APA style. The websites states that “A quotation uses exactly the same words and puts them in quotation marks.” However, it states that “A paraphrase uses an author's idea, but expresses it in your own words - without quotation marks, since it's no longer a word-for-word quotation. “

I was very busy for this weekend because I moved to new house. The house is located in the short distance, about 5minute by walking, from the old house I’ve lived in, so it was easy to move my all stuffs to new house. Actually, since I came to the U.S, I have lived with American family or other friends. Therefore, I’m getting a little exiting and also scaring because it is a first experience. Also, I’m getting feeling like I’m really independent of something. These days, I’m making an American friend because I’d like to learn English, their culture, life style, one’s way of thinking, and one’s sense of values. I know that most American people are not interested in international people.
However, my friends whom I know have a vision as like international missionary or international business. They want to acquire different culture and compare different thought. I thank for God whom I believe because He leads me to meet good people.
Last week, I had a great time, it means that I prepared salmon dishes with my friend, went to the new movie, “Hitch”, visited an exhibition hall, and went to live music house which I have never been in US. I thank you for my friends who have a broad minded and help me have a true heart.
I’ll share my culture and mind more and more and I’ll surely try to overcome language barrier constantly.

according to Mr. Kim's story, he committed the plagiarism such as cut and pasted the almost all words from the internet sources. it was wrong because his professor's already told him using the own words. after a few days, he gave low grade about the paper. i believe that it is right. however, if he did not know about plagiarsm before, the professor should have given another chance wrting a paper because he did not recognize what he was doing as similar as Marita's case.

i am trying to enjoy my new life at columbus though i find something to do. i had lived at chicago for over 1year. however, when i came to here, i was disappointed because it is smaller than chicago. therefore, i thought that there were not enough entertainments than chicago. i used to go shopping, play with my friends at Chicago. even though there looks so similar to columbus' life, there are not same. however, i believed that i will enjoy new life at columbus after several weeks. Seven weeks had been pasted already since the beginning of winter quarter. I finally got my first “A” midterm this quarter. This quarter I started up pretty bad, all my midterms grade were not that great. The only midterm that I got an “A” on it is my computer science and engineering class. I was so happy about it. Three more weeks, spring break will be coming. I can’t wait till that time, because I plan to go to New York and Toronto. The reason I am going to New York because is my cousin’s wedding. It seems that it was a right decision for the instructor to give him a low grade. Therefore, I think the instructor might give him a chance to rewrite and reevaluate the paper. My life in Columbus - Taeboo Nam..

We already spent 7weeks of this quarter and then just left 2 or 3 weeks by the end of this quarter. Some friends of mine seems to be already happy with this coming spring break and make a plan to go somewhere for the vacation.

However, last week was a terrible week to me because I got a serious cold from last Tuesday, and I’m still suffering from running nose and headache. Actually, I haven’t gotten cold since last spring, but maybe I think it was due to insufficient sleep. Anyway, I don’t really want anybody of this class to get cold and infect from me…. I hope so….

I guess that columbus's prices is little bit expensive than West Virginia which I lived before. In West Virginia's prices like tax, rent fee, tuition and so on was not expensive comparing to Ohio. When I go to market like krogger or meijer, I can feel the prices is really different. For example, ham or sausage prices in Columbus is much expensive than West Virginia even if those ham or sausage are same brand. Rent fee is also expensive in Columbus. When I was in West Virginia, I just paid $200 monthly even though I had a roomate but in Coulumbus, I paying $550 monthly. It is over two times expensive than West Virginia. In addition to those things, using water, gas and eletronics fee is really expensive. So, I got finantial trouble at last month without knowing columbus's prices. When I called to my father to get money, my father doubted that I spent the money to useless things like buying luxury cloths or shoes. Therefore, I realized that I should save money. Probably, getting roomate will be a good choice to save money.

Most people think that more vacation may help your health and reduce stress levels. There are several research reports that show vacations may be enjoyable as well as health promoting.

However, taking vacation in USA is not easy as there is no law that requires employers to give employees paid vacation times. In Europe, most countries have a law that insists employees have a right to five weeks of vacation per year.

For solving these problems, companies have to give flexible time off where a total number of days per year can be used for some purpose. Also, small businesses should give employees more cross-training and do a little planning during the vacation, sick, holidays.

If employees received more vacation, they would be more productive. Giving free time for workers, these problems will be solved.

Mr. Kim accused of plagiarism since he only cut and pasted many internet site sources and copied it without citation. Even though his professor asked to find internet sources, Mr. Kim must be referred to these materials and changed own his word as like paraphrasing. If he wants to use like that, he had been mark of the reference in his paper.

I think that his teacher justified in giving him a low grade if he committed intentional plagiarism which copy entire as his own without citing. However, if Mr. Kim is international students having different culture, he may not know how serious plagiarism is. If he committed unintentional plagiarism due to a lack of understanding of the using of citation and documentation, his teacher may give another chance.

After a few days, when my professor returned the paper to each student, he commented "Your paper was not written by your own words and you copied so much" something like this. I don’t really have a lot of experiences with plagiarism. I had never got caught for plagiarizing in my life either. During my high school years, I would write an English paper, and then I will ask my friends to proofread the paper over and make any correction on it. In high school, none of my teacher considers that as plagiarism. Until I got to college, I spoke to my English professor; he said that asking somebody to proofread and make correction on it can also be considered as plagiarism. I am glad that I spoke to my professor about this matter, otherwise, I might commit plagiarism and I don’t even know what had I done wrong. But in my high school year, one of my classmates did get caught for plagiarism. What he did was that he copy and past from the internet and he never cited the paper. He didn’t just copy couple of sentence; he copied about 50% of the paper. The teacher find out at the end, the he give that student an “F” on the paper as a punishment. That student did intentionally cheat too, he know what he was doing. He had never thought that the teacher would go online to search to find out if he cheated or not. I think that punishment was good, because is better for him to get punish in high school than college.

In my life, I don't really know what will be happening in future. However, I do know what is currently happening to me. Currently, I am in college and try to earn a degree in business major. My college life had been going pretty well for me. Lately this month, I had been driving back to my hometown Cleveland a lot. My parent got a Chinese restaurant and this month is always busy, so I have to help out. This week is also Chinese New Year's, my parent gives me some lucky money and I am very happy about it. I am still deciding how I should spend this money. I was thinking about getting an apple ipod but it is kind of no use for me. My schedule this quarter is not that good. I got many night classes and every week I have at least one midterm. The only weeks that I didn't have midterm are the first two weeks of the quarter. For my next quarter schedule, I hope would be something better than this quarter. The worst part about making schedule is that I am freshmen, and we get to do the schedule the last. By the time it gets to us, all the day classes will be taking. We would have to take either the 7:30 classes or late night classes and many of the classes are full. Therefore we have to be on a waitlist. So I can’t wait till I am sophomore, then I get a better schedule than my freshmen year.

most old people think that students should have ambition about the future. nowadays, i used to think about this topic because i am 26 years old. some people think that it is too young whatever he or she do. i think so, since i was young, i have always thought that i wish i do. however, as time goes by, i start to believe that it is depend on what i do because i can not do as i wish. i start to lose myself because i can not follow as world goes. it is too fast as i follow it. i' m not always be a student. after two years later, graduate school, obvioulsy, i will have worked for someone same as normal person. is this my dream? i don't know. actually, i have normal dream like, having family and job, having reputation and money, and having a stablized future.

before i came to United States, i had some experiences about plagairism because i used to write a paper using internet sources when i was a university students at Korea. whenever i wrote a paper, i used to cut and pasted some words without citation same as Haley. obviously, it was wrong. however, i did not realize what plagiarism exactly was at that time because i had never caught what i did and studied about that. moreover, i had never thought how serious problem is. however, since i came to here, i have known those things. especially, last year, i turned paper in school which i copied some words from other people without reveal. finally, i was caught by my teacher. as teacher understood my culture and situation, he gave the chance write a paper again.

Maybe I think that one of troubles that many international students have is loneliness.

Before I came to the U.S, I have been nostalgic for studying abroad because I just thought that it was something special. However, it was different. Living alone, departed from family and friends, just gave me the feeling, lonliness.
Anyway, to overcome the feeling, it seems many international students to try to find many ways like making friends, doing exercises, or traveling somewhere. I’ve also found new hobbies since I came to the U.S. One of these is watching movies.

Especially, these days, I enjoy past movies that I ever watched. Through some websites using P2P server, I’m downloading some movies. Of course, it is free, and we can contact easily, so that’s why I prefer the service even though it is illegal. Also, another hobby I have in the U.S is jogging. Before I came to Ohio, my house was located nearby a lake, so I often run around the lake. I think jogging is definitely better sports to get and maintain good health than any other sports.

In my memory, I sometimes plagiarized some sentences for assignments when I studied at a university in my country.

Maybe five years ago, I remember that I have taken a tough homework in a business class. The homework was that we wrote an essay about a review after reading a novel related to Management and then turned it in by a next class. I thought that we didn’t have enough knowledge to follow major classes. Also, it was so short time to complete the assignment that I decided to find sources and put directly it on the paper. I didn’t put any quotation because I didn’t know at all what plagiarism was, and I hadn’t learned about it. Even I thought that such actions, copying and pasting, might often be allowed by school and educators.

In this quarter, I watched the movie last weekend as soon as my first midterms finished. I introduce to “The Last Samurai” movie.

The battles Captain Nathan Algren(Tom Cruise) fought for honor and country seem useless and distant now. The world has changed since the Civil War. Especially, pragmatism has taken the place of courage and honor which is important to the military spirit. He is deep in sorrow and despair because his role in the Indian Campaigns became meaningless. So he has been losing his way for a long time.

On the other hand, a man called Katsumoto(Ken Watanabe) in Japan was falling in disorder because of his sense of values. He is the last leader of an ancient line of warriors, the Samurai, who dedicated their lives to serving emperor and country. Just as the modern civilization encroached on the American Indian, the telegraph lines and railroads that lead to progress threaten traditional people and change their values.

In the late 1870s, the young Emperor of Japan hires Algren to train Japan’s modern army because of American investors who are eager to grow the Japanese market. As the new army prepares to wipe out the remaining Samurai, Algren was attacked and captured by the Samurai. He learns about their honor and recognizes what he actually wants to be. The Samurai’s convictions about keeping their tradition remind him who he was. Algren, having a struggle between worlds and ages, makes a decision to trust with Samurai.

At first, the beginning of the modernization of Japan was symbolized by the eradication of the Samurai way of life. Such features of that time (the current of time) are described realistically and visually and gave me indirect experience about changing Japan.

Sometimes I had heard the new of plagiarism from broadcasting. However, I did not recognize that plagiarism is a very important problem. Frankly speaking, I did not know the correct concepts of what plagiarism is before I came to the US. I think that the majority of international students do not understand the definition of plagiarism as well as a matter of prime importance.

I have never experienced to be committed plagiarism. I also have never heard or observed someone I know ever plagiarized. However, plagiarism was misconducted by someone in our major class last quarter. My professor said that some assignments copied in whole sentences which turned in last year’s assignment. Even though he did not explaining about the specific situation, he recommended that university students should be kept things. Our professor advised us not to commit plagiarism again and this happening had finished. After warning, I’m paying more attention plagiarism.

International students have a various culture and circumstance. Therefore, I suppose that obvious explanation for plagiarism need to them. And education institutions including university have to educate appropriate acknowledgement or referencing.

Yes, frankly I plagiarized so many time in my former school which located in West Virginia. When I had a homework or research paper, sometimes I plagiarized. I am not different to Haley, Marita and Jamal. Sometimes, I plagiarized by cut and pasted the paper like Haley and sometimes I listed the internet sources or magazines to my research paper like Marita. Moreover, I just turned in somebody's paper to the professor by changing original name to my name like Jamal.

I knew that was not good but I did not realize that it was against academic rule and it was a plagiarism. As Haley, Marita and Jamal, I also did not get an education about plagiarism. That is why I did it. And, sometimes when I did not have any idea about the paper or assignment and I did not have an enough time to finish of it, I plagiarized.

I do not remember exactly but around two years ago, I took phical science 1 class. When I took that class, my professor gave to us a research paper assignment about natural disaster. In that time, he asked to us "Find internet sources which is relate to your topic and write down paper by your own words." But, I cut and pasted many internet site sources and copied it almost. And, I just turned in that paper to the professor. After a few days, when my professor returned the paper to each student, he commented "Your paper was not written by your own words and you copied so much" something like this. And, finally, he gave me so poor score about the research paper. That what I remember about my plagiarism experience.

I do not have any idea about OSU. What if I plagiarized, how can professor will respond. Dr. Bloch...Would you explain to me in next time? I am really wondering about it.

What is currently happening in your life by Dong hwi Kim

As I commented at last time, Now I am taking four classes. But, two classes of them, really makes me upset. I took the test at this week but I think I did not take well. Actually, I studied not much but I did as much as I can. But, those classes ,which are about biology and phical science, really hard for me expecially terms and words. Therefore, even if I study, it is really hard to figure out and understand what is that mean. So, I realized seriously that I need to study harder than now. And, I would meet and study with TA from next. So, maybe I will better to study and easy to understand to those biological or phisical terms.

The other things what happend to me is that after I came to Ohio, I lost my weights much. I guses it is because of stress. I looking forward to the break time. In that time, I want to go somewhere. I want to feel free as a birds.

Things are going pretty well so far. I am kind of excited now, because Chinese New Year is coming up soon. That time my parent would give me money, so I have more money to spend. My classes were also better than last week too. I took another quiz in computer science and engineering class and I got thirty out of forty on it, which it improved a lot compare to last quiz that I took. Even know it improved, my goal is to get one hundred percent, so I have to work on it more. I also got my math midterm score back too; I got eighty-nine percent on it. I was happy; I could have done better though. On the exam, I made some stupid mistake and that cause me eleven points. The only thing that’s bad happened to me last week is when I got sick on Wednesday. I missed the class and missed the movie, which I had to go to library to barrow the movie.

I found this blog to be interesting, because it included one of my interests. I am interesting in watching movies and talk about them, which this blog doing exactly what I like to do. This blog talks about how this person came from Austria and she loved to watch movies. She stayed in United State around two months; she already watched around thirty movies. Some of them are on DVD and some of them she went to cinemas and watch. After she watched the movies, she likes to write review about them. In the blog, she wrote a review on movie House of Flying Dagger, which is one of my favorite movies. She stated almost every detail of the movie and I enjoy reading it. She also wrote many reviews on many other movies too. Her reviews are different from many other people’s review, because she goes more into detail than other. Most other people’s reviews are short. So I like this blog that she wrote.

Among the story of Jamal, Haley, and Marita, there are similarity and difference. The similarity among these story are they all committed plagiarism and they all got caught. The differences are the story behind each of them. In Jamal’s case, he used William’s writing to turn into the school as his work, but he never knows that the paper had been published. He promises William that anything they wrote at the house stay in the house, but he breaks the promise. Jamal knows that using someone else’s writing is still considered plagiarizing, but he never know that Crawford will find out. In Haley’s case, her situation is pretty similar to Jamal. They both know that it is plagiarizing. Haley used the method of copy and past and changed some of the words into her own. They both don’t think that they will get caught. So I believe they both should be punished. However, I don’t believe Marita should be punished because her situation is different from them. Marita never know that she committed plagiarism. She came from a tough neighbor hood high school, so she never learned the correct way of writing or/and citing a paper. If she had known that, she probably wouldn’t turn in that paper. Therefore, Marita should receive second chance to write the paper, instead of punishment. Since this is her first time knowing that, this would serve as a warning to Marita. If she does commit plagiarism again in the future, she should be punished.

the author, Erica Rogers tried find her younger brother because her father showed one picture to her when she was 15 years old. he told her "this boy is my son on the picture." she had never seen him before. when she was 25 years old, fianlly, their family started to find him using several methods. however, they did not recognize him because they had one picture which he took it when he was 1 year old. however, they found him last year because they tried to find him using new method "DNA Paternity Testing". the author have one younger brother right now. she thanked for new science "DNA" especially, Gene-Tree.

first of all, i want to say "Family". it is important to me because i was born and raised in this community. i learn many experiences through family and discover which direction my future should go as family with people grows. as i have family, i will do my family as much as my parents do. i have never thought anything without family. finally, that's why i love my family and that's why my family is important in my life.

Do they all deserve the same punishment?

Haley used cutting and pasting some sentences for her late homework. She already knew that it is plagiarism, but the pressure of the late homework leaded her to plagiarize again despite being suspended from school. I think it is definite that she plagiarized. However, Marita’s case is different. She didn’t know that her action is plagiarism. She found sources from her text book and then put the name of the book on the back of the paper. Actually, her action was turned out as plagiarism, but the important thing is that she didn’t still recognize what was wrong. Jamal also committed plagiarism, but the movie shows that he already has enough talent of writing. Therefore, the evaluation of his action of most viewers might weaken, but I think it is surely plagiarism that Jamal turned Forrester’s work in for his assignment. Therefore, in my opinion, Haley needs to get a punishment for her action. Also, Jamal also needs the same punishment of his first assignment even though he is a good writer, but Marita needs to get education, not get punishment.she didn’t recognize that it was plagiarism

In the article, “A review of “Rethinking the Great Depression,” Richard Vedder discuss about the causes of the 1930`s Depression and why it was expanded. He mentions that Europe could have escaped from the Depression faster than the U.S that still had a double-digit unemployment rate in 1940`s. He believes that the reason why the U.S didn’t get out of the Depression slower than Europe is simple. He thinks that New Deal economic policy of Roosevelt’s NRA (National Recovery Administration) is counterproductive. He belives that the anti-business attitudes of the president and the government leaded to the low level of business confidence and the sluggishness of investment at that time.

In the last December, before I came here, I have gotten backache so visited a chiropractic hospital. The severe pain made me so feel bad and terrible, so I couldn’t have anything like playing sports, meeting somebody, and even sitting on a chair. Actually, I had often felt the sick since the beginning of 2004, but I guess that it was just slight pain and sick. Of course, I could have cured it well, but the chiropractor advised me to be careful and avoid something like intense physical activities and exercises. Also, he emphasized that I do light exercises for my waist. Anyway, through this chance, what I feel and want to say is that poor health may be a barrier of your life.

Yes, they commited plagiarism. But, the situation , which commited plagiarism, is totally different. First of all, Haley plagiarized intentially just because of her laziness even though she already got warning before. She is really insensible about plagiarism. In contrast to Haley, Marita and Jamal did not plagiarized intentially. Especially, Marita had no idea about plagiarism because she never got education about plagiarism. And, in Jamal's case, actually, he plagiarized once. But, it is because of Robert Crawford. When Jamal turned in his first paper, he never believed what Jamal wrote because of stereo type about Jamal. As you know, Jamal is black and he is basketball player. Due to these reason, Jamal was angry and finally, he plagiarized. But, first of all, Robert Crawford had to be fair. Originally, Jamal is intelligent and smart student. Robert Crawford should knew this. In conclusion, Haley should be expelled from school because she ignored school's law. And, in Marita and Jamal's case, school must give one more chance to them. If so, they will not commite plagiarism anymore.

I searched about global warming. The blog explain and demonstrate the process of shrinking glaciers and why it is happend. Most reason is because of global warming. If so, why global warming is processed? As the industry developed, extreamly increasing coal and oil consumption caused global warming. Finally, it became serious problem which can threat human being. Everyone must protect this one. This is not just for us. If one do not anything now for global warming, our descendant would not survive anymore. If you watch the movie " The day after tommorow", you would know how global warming is dangerous. We should protect this one. There are many ways to protect global warming. But, most effective way is to decrease the consumption of coal and oil. To acheive, we must develop new natural energy source like sun, electronic and nuclear power energy. Actually, we already developed these energy but it did not use for everyone practically. Thus, one must decrease the time period as soon as possible that everyone can use these natural energies practically in real life.

Recently, I have so much stress about class and everything. Especially, geological science makes me tired because of lab. Every tuesday, I have lab meeting. After the lab finished, I got to solve lab questions but it is extremly hard for me. So, I really do not want to go lab meeting. And, second thing is about military service. Now, I am 24 years old. So, I must go to the military at least before this december. This makes me crazy. Maybe, I might not graduate school before this december. So, I have to come back to USA after finish military. This is so annoying. So, sometime whenever I think about military, I feel like so confuse and hard to concentrate on study. Except these things, everythings going fine. I hope so that I should be get out of stress someday.

He mentions that the three essentials is important key to achievement. He believe most people internally have the unique power which is desire to achieve and succeed in; thus, you have to find and know your strengths and weakness to be success and achievement and then you have to try and work toward your goals and dreams for a while. In addition, he suggests that having a sustainable motivation allow you to overcome difficult things of your business without getting derailed from moving toward your main objective.

When I read this passage, I thought that long term achievement needs constant motivation. I ask myself some questions as like ‘Do I have constant motivation?’, Am I studying hard to reach my goals and dreams?(consistent action), and so on. I had a good time to look back my life and situation with reading a blog.

Since I came to US, I have been observed some strange something. I may possibly be sensible of. Today I want to talk about these things.

First, the most building have a heavy door. When I go to anywhere and open the door, I have to spend a lot of energy. I wonder why doors were made heavily. Sometimes I was a well-founded conjecture that it is to keep the comfortable heating and cooled air condition. However, I cannot find the reasonable reasons about this question.

The second, Ohio is famous for having changeable weather. So the most America people are said that “person who was a capricious man is called Ohio’s”. I am also feeling to have unstable weather but students in OSU do not have umbrella even if it is raining. Some say since they know for claiming down rain soon enough. However, our country people have umbrella not only raining or snowing but also protecting sun in summer.

The last, most food which I had experience in USA taste sweet or salty. These foods have a lot of quantity which I eat at once. So lots Korean people directly cook rice and Korean food. I know that many countries have different food culture. I suppose to be good for health to reduce salt or sugar.

When comparing to having intention of plagiarism among Haley, Marita, and Jamal cases, we can find that Jamal case is very different to the other ones.

Since Jamal did not have the intention which commit plagiarism at all. Also, he turned in his paper not to know his rewrite something which published. Though Jamal broke their promise which anything we wrote in William’s house would stay in, Jamal may reveal his effort in writing. Above all, there is a problem that Robert Crasford is narrow-minded and unfair not to recognize and develop Jamal’s writing talent but to have race prejudice.

Haley had the intention of academic plagiarism even if she knew enough academic integrity and was senior student. Therefore, it is fair to receive academic probation as like expel. However, Marita did not have the intention of commit plagiarism in her first assignments and she did not know how to report reference sources in her paper. Thus, a disciplinary committee have to provide another opportunity for Marita. Also, Jamal committed plagiarism even though he is not intentional. However, Jamal have a remarkable gift or ability which express his own words and he is 16 age. Therefore, I think that this institution have to take proper decision and give Jamal an opportunity to write.

in the Haley's case, she did plagiarize even if she knew that those things were wrong. moreover, she was on probation cutting and pasitng the paper before. on the contrary, in the Marita's case, she did also plagiarize, but, she did not realize what she did. she put the source's name of the book she used on the back her paper. accoring to Mike Rose's arguements, she did plagiarize intentionally because of her family culture and situation. So, i believe that those two people' case is totally different. compare with Jamal' case, he did plagiarize first paper using William Forrester's word such as first page and title. however, William allow to use his word Jamal wrote a paper. fianlly, accroding to school board, he use other source without any cites back of his paper.

i do not think so, in the Haley's case, she should be expelled form the school because of her past behavior. on the contrary, Marita's case, she might be recieved another chance such a writing the paper. moreover, in the Jamal's case, he was not expelled from the school because he cover disciplinary action by second draft and William makes a surprise apperance at the writing competiton to prove to the school officials and students that Jamal wrote the paper.

There are some similities and differences between Haley and Marita. Both of them plagiarized internet or book. This is totally wrong. But, I guess, Haley did not realize what she was wrong. In contrast to Haley, Marita wanted to write good paper. Therefore, she plagiarized unintentionally. Maybe, Haley also wanted to do good research paper but in her case, she plagiarized intentionally. Indeed, she had experience which has been suspensed in last time. But, she did it once again. In my opinion, everyone may plagiarize. Because, they are still young. So, they might not figure out what is exactly plagiarism or not. Thus, Marita could excuse at this time. Maybe, school teacher or staff should let her know about plagiarism and give to her strong warning. But, Haley went totally wrong way. She should get any penalty.

I took 4 classes in this term. Usually, I do not have problem with them. But, one class makes me upset. It is a human nutrition. I missed so many classes. Sometime, it is because of weather and sometime it is because of my laziness. So, I am getting so much troubles now. I did not note lecture and I have no idea about that class. In addition, geological science class also makes me nervous. Actually, lecture class is fine to me but in lab class, I do not know what do I have to do. It is so difficult and teacher give to us just a little bit time to solve questions. And, there are no Korean even Asian. Therefore, no one can not help me. This is horrible to me. Except these two classes, I guess, I am fine.

It has been three weeks, since winter quarter started. During the first week of classes, I have no problem with any of my classes. On the second week of classes, I started to have some problems with it. The biggest problem I have with is the weather. During the second week, it rains a lot. That caused me don’t want to go to classes. Since I didn’t go to classes, I missed a lot of stuff. On the third week, many of my class either got mid-term or a quiz. In my math class, we had a quiz and I didn’t do so well on it. This also happened in my computer science class; I totally messed up on the quiz. For my economic class, we had a midterm last Tuesday and I didn’t study for it, so I have no idea what would I get on it. Hope isn’t that bad. The only class that I have no problem with is my English 106 class. So the weather had cause a lot of damage to me. My night classes schedule also caused problem.

There are many differences and similarities between Haley and Marita story. The similarities among both story are they both commit plagiarism. Even know both of them commit the same crime, but there is a story behind both of them. In Haley’s case, she intentionally plagiarized. Which in Marita’s case, she was not intentionally plagiarized. The reason I said Haley intentionally plagiarize, because she already got caught once before for plagiarism. Teacher put her on probation as a punishment and warning. Some how, this punishment wouldn’t stop her from plagiarize again. When she wrote the second paper, she knows she was on the probation. Shortage of time, cause her want to plagiarize again. After she plagiarized on the second paper she know that she will be getting punish, but she never think of punish as expelled. In Marita's case, she had no idea that she committed plagiarism. Unexpected topic causes her want to go to the library and do some research on it. Marita did copy and past a lot of information, but she did give the credit to the person who wrote it. Marita came from a tough school, which Haley came from Harvard material school. Haley should know that better then Marita does. Marita was never thought that she might get punish or expel for that and Haley know for sure that she will get punish. The main difference is that Haley got one warning before and Marita never did. If Marita got one warning before, she probably will never make the same mistake. Since there are different situation among two of them, I don’t believe that they should be treated the same. I believe Marita should be given another chance, just like how Haley got on probation for the first time.

I think that it is different because Haley herself already knew that it was plagiarism, but Marita didn’t recognize that. In my opinion, there is a big difference, not similarities.

In Haley’s case, she knew that it was plagiarism. Although she already knew that to copy and paste some sentences for her assignment from internet sources, she tried to do that because of her late assignment. In the story, “The Plain Dealer,” she had gotten caught plagiarizing and then suspended for a day from school by the punishment. However, her late assignment made her try to plagiarize other sources again. Of course, through the opinion like the school didn’t give her enough education against plagiarizing, her action might be justified, but I totally agree with the school’s policy that dismissed her out of school.

However, I think Marita’s case is different because she didn’t recognize that it was plagiarism. In the story, “Lives on the Boundary,” she was thinking that it would be all right to find sources from text books and then to put the name of the book on the back of the paper. Therefore, even, she was still wondering why she was in counseling office of her school. As the author’s opinion, I think that it is desirable that the school allow her to give a chance to rewrite a essay of the assignment.

I want to introduce a site that is popular among young Korean. This is a site of a program broadcasting on Korean radio. Actually, the program, called “Lee Ji-young’s Good Morning Pops,” was one of my favorite programs before I came to the U.S. In Korea, nowadays, most university students study TOEIC(Test of English for international communication) to get a job because many companies reinforce selecting new employees with the test. Because I also wanted to get high score in the test, I often tried to listen to the program.
It is broadcasted early, between 6 am and 7 am, so people would often miss it. Therefore, one advantage of the site is possible to re-listen the program through a re-broadcasting device. Also, another advantage is that it is possible to improve listening skill, vocabulary, and grammar if listening everyday. (My friend’s opinion…Not me)
Anyway…you guys can enjoy a broadcasting program mixed by Korean and English…

How are your classes going? - Taeboo Nam

I’m taking 3classes for this quarter. 2 Economic classes and this ESL writing class. Actually, Economic classes are still fine and not hard. I think the reason is that I’ve taken these classes in Korea. My major was business, but I had to take some economic classes as elective courses. In the last week, I’ve already taken the first midterm of Macroeconomic. I’ll get the result of the exam tomorrow and expect good grade. Anyway, the last 3weeks to me was enough time to accommodate myself to the classes, so I expect I finish doing well everything for my classes.

this quarter is the first in the OSU. i am taking four classes, Math, English, Plant biology and Business.

in the Math class, actually, i've already learned those things from Korea when i was high school. i do not have problem as i taking this class. if it has a problem, i want to say "teacher".
because i taking this class 4 times every week. at the lecture time, teacher just speak very small without mike in fornt of over 100 people. and then he explain something very fastly. i know nobody do understand those part. moreover, nobody want to interrupt the class.

espcially, in the Plant Biology class, i like it so much. even though professor is over 75 years old, he try to teach biology theory easily. every lecture time, he try to teach new method such as act and participation. for example, last week, i learned about DNA and RNA in the class. in the class, professor gave the balloon each person at class, and then, he tried to understand the students those part more easily using the colorful balloon. i believe that he love to teach the students.

anyways, right now, it's alrady gone 3th weeks. i hope i will finish this quater as i expect.

there looks like similarily because two of them did plagiaized some other sources. however it's totally diffenent.

first of all, in the Haley's case, she did plagiaized from internet source as she recognized herself she was wrong.
on the contrary, Marita could not recognize she did plagiaize. however, according to Jacob Bronowski, her professor believe that she cheated because her paper used on old and formal just not what he find in freshman writing even if she put the name of book she used on the back he paper. it's totally difference bewteen Haley and Marita.

Finally, i agree with Mike Rose's opinion which she wrote last paragraph. most people had same situation before when they did their assignment even writer would too. So, i suggest she maybe has another chance to write the paper.

How are your classes going?

I am taking four subjects including English class in this quarter. I have changed major fields from business administration to statistics since I entered OSU; therefore, I have some problems.

First of all, I am not accustomed to understanding my major field terms and to hearing foreign languages as English. So I have to do preparations and review of my lessons. For example, I try to read the book and lecture note before and after class and solve the problem. I would very much like to understand the material I am learning with confidence and be doing well at school, but English is being a barrier.

My major have lots of assignments to do and I expend most time to do homework. I heard that the department of statistics is famous for giving an assignment to students. If I do not understand lecture notes, I cannot solve the problem and program various statistics packages. Thus, I should directly understand and study a lecture.

Even though I have a difficulty, if I have to exert all possible efforts in this quarter, I’m sure that I’ll get better and comfortable soon.

Compare Haley and Marita

I think that the cases Haley and Marita are the different according to with intention or without intention of plagiarism.

Haley’ intention was to commit plagiarism without reveal. If she looked at and began her assignment early, she may be not pressed for time and be finished her work without cheating. Under the probation which she already has stated, she committed plagiarism again because she considered getting better grades and coming up to her parents’ expectation. Also, she who is senior student knew well enough academic plagiarism which must not do and is academic integrity. In despite of recognizing these facts, she plagiarized another person’s writing from website. Therefore it is obvious that she is committing plagiarism with the intention.

However, Marita do not her assignments with the intention. Marita also wanted to do well her assignment. Even though she did not fully understand about her homework, she gathered reference sources from library and the encyclopedia and reported the last page of her paper in her own way. It is clear that Marita also committed plagiarism. But she is a freshman in university and has a problem her first assignment whether her paper plagiarizes. If she knows to use reference well, she may not make a mistake. Therefore, unintentional plagiarism has to be escaped the penalty in Marita case when we consider how matters stand.

Taeboo Nam - How OSU is going for you?

I think the last 2 weeks to me was short but enough time to accommodate myself to new surroundings of OSU. (Except still getting confused to look for some buildings.)
During the last 2 weeks, what I felt about OSU is that it is so broad and wide… Acctually, my previous school was so small that I could find everywhere in just 10 minutes so I sometimes felt choky. Maybe that was why I preferred to go to OSU which has broad extent. However, I’m still surprising about the real extent of OSU. Especially, I remember the first terrible Monday of this quarter. It was rainy all day, and I didn’t know where Hichicock, Smith Lab, and Hagerty Hall are located, so I hang around campus all day. After finishing my all classes on that Monday and going back home, I really got tired and went to bed in the early evening. Anyway, everything is fine, but broad school is another problem for a new school life.

I think that it is right for Haley to be expelled from the school but the school also has to have a responsibility of the punishment.

First, the reason why I agree with the punishment of Haley’s plagiarism is due to her action. She already knew that plagiarizing is wrong. She has been suspended for a day due to her disciplinary problem. However, in spite of such a terrible experience, she tried to plagiarize again for her late homework. As some people say, “Ignorance is not guilty,” Haley’s ignorance of whether plagiarizing is wrong or not wouldn’t be a guilty, but she already recognized what is wrong and right. Therefore, I agree that it was right for her to be expelled from school.

However, I also think the school needed to have a responsibility of the accident because it looks like they didn’t give Haley enough education against plagiarizing. In this article, Joanne, Haley’s mother, says that nowadays many young students download music from websites, such as Napster or Kazza, but they don’t recognize that it is wrong. That is, Haley first needed education to recognize that plagiarizing is a guilty. However, she has just been suspended for a day for the punishment.

I really believe Haley should be expelled. This way it wills teacher her lesson, so she wouldn’t make the same mistake again in the future. Haley should be expelled because she had done the same mistake over and over again. First of all, she should have started her paper in the beginning, instead of doing it the day before the due date. If she had started the early, she wouldn’t have the time problem. If she doesn’t have the time problem, then she probably would never think of plagiarize. Another thing is that she got caught once for plagiarism already and she was on probation as a punishment, she should get her lesson from that. I guess that punishment was not enough for her, and it seem like she don’t get any lesson from it. Plagiarism is a wrong thing to do, no matter what her excuse is. Even know she rewrite most of them in her own word, but that is still plagiarize. Expelled her will be good for her in the future, because small punishment lead her to plagiarize again. Expelled during her high school years is better than her getting punish in the future, because she still young. She still got many other options. If she got caught for plagiarize in college, some college will take away the degrees and some of them will kick you out of the college. That time she doesn’t have that many options as before. Event in the job field, plagiarize might loss your job, and that look bad on the resume. It will be harder for her to find another job. So I strongly believe she should be expelled.

To many students, adapting to college life is quite difficult for them. To me, I really enjoy the life as a college student. I had been stayed at OSU around three months already. I had made many friends. There are many things that are different between OSU and high school. In high school, I don’t really studying at home that much. Most time, I study during school time. At OSU, I had to study at home, because we only got short time during class. But I like OSU better than high school, because I rather had self study, instead of group study. Another thing that I fell different is living. At home, my mom cleans my room and does my laundry all the time. At OSU I have to clean my own room and I also have to do my own laundry. One of the biggest problems I found at OSU is parking. I came from Cleveland, so I drove my car here. Every time I want to go back to Cleveland. I would have to take the bus to pick up my car. Sometime I want to go shopping, I would have to take the bus instead of driving car. Last quarter I had a really easy schedule, I only took 16 credit hours. All my classes was between 9am-3pm, and only one night class. So that was an easy quarter. This quarter I am taking 19 credit hours, so is little bit harder for me. Another thing I hate about this quarter is that most of my class is during night time. I am a freshman, so we were the last one to made schedule. Beside those things, all my other events go pretty well for me.

Describe how OSU is going for you?

Everything is going to fine. Now, I become adjusted to OSU and I met many people. But, there are still annoying things. The most difficult thing is parking. Always, there are no parking spaces in school even though I come to school early. So, I could not come to class on time. Maybe, in next time, I should come to school earlier. And, walking campus, it also makes me tired. Actually, I would like to walk usually. But, in this school, I always have to walk to find out building for all day. I hope and suggest that this school makes monorail before I graduated. Maybe, it is a huge dream just for me. Except these things, everything is good. Still, classes what I taking, are not so difficult.

Do you think Haley should have been expelled?

Yes, absolutely, she should have been expelled.

Fist of all, she plagiarized it before and had been suspended for a day. But, she did once again. In that time, school already warned her and suspended. Haley should been reflect on her act. But, she did it intentionally because of laziness. This is not a fault. She must response to her acting.

Second, she is not freshmen or sophomores. It means she is not young student anymore who does not know anything. Indeed, she already got warning from school. But, she plagiarized one more time. Of course, this is against school’s law and academic integrity. Her mother says this punishment is too harsh for her daughter and also, everyone plagiarizes and copy. But, this is all her fault and she has nothing to say about it even though she was expelled from school. School already gave her chance but she did not follow the rule. Obviously, this is the lack of morality.

Thus, she should have been expelled.

How OSU is going for you?

Frankly speaking, when I came to the OSU I am disappointed at the surroundings situation not only as like repairing buildings and roads but also huge campus without identity. Also, I had not noticed that there are the numbers of Korean people before I arrived in OSU. I received to help Korean people settle down the Columbus and acclimate myself to a new environment. However, The OSU seem to be living as like KOREA in US since there are many Korean, Korean restaurants, and stores closely.

Aspects of my major, I thank for doing study in OSU since there are a few university having programs which I participated in. Above all, I’m pleasant that professors’ explanation of the lecture and problems did satisfy my curiosity. Most professors is very kind to teach and is willing to help students. Also, I met very nice American and international friends through classes and club activity.

Changing my living environment by studying abroad, I have leaded a monotonous life. I usually have classes, take exercise, and study on weekdays. I take a rest and attend Sunday services on weekends mostly. Because everyday life is happening in our campus, I may be easy to feel boring.

I cannot determine yet whether the OSU is going for me or not. However, I believe that human being is influenced by one’s environment. I do not think the OSU is the best now, but I will do my best to be ‘the best’ through the OSU.

I think that the penalty for Haley’s plagiarism on an paper is not severe because Haley knew wrong things to copy and paste from Web sites.

Nowadays, raising children is easy to contact the number of searching engine in Website and get much information. As the results of these, Haley’s parents insist that young child do not recognize their faults which plagiarism is not right. And they expressed their disapproval of the Hawken officials’ decision using anther sites for proving plagiarism of their daughter.

Even though Haley commits plagiarism since she is pressured to get better grades, she already stated on probation due to plagiarism her other paper. She is enough age to recognize an academic plagiarism is illegal and criminal.

In my opinion, viewed in using web site to prove mistakes, I cannot determinate whether it is right or not. However, after expelling from the school, she totally has been changed as a good student and she will never commit academic integrity again.

Since plagiarism means to violate another’s intellectual rights, I’m certain that Hawken expelled her with some good(proper) reason.

In sum, we have to realize that there should be disastrous consequences when plagiarism takes place in academic. However, we need to try to come up with a solution instead of criticizing students.

Ryan- how OSU going for you?

since winter 2005 class started, i have often thought that, "is it good for me?". first of all, before i transfered OSU, i had some ideas. for example, when i used to study at DePaul University, Chicago, i thought that it was hard to make a friend, american friend because Chicago was too big. however, two weeks later, right now, i could not communicate with other classmates in the class because class is too big and time is too short. i think that i talked to classmates in the class at Chicago more easier than OSU. actually, most international students agree with my opinion. however, i think it is from misunderstanding about american culture. after Winter 2005 class, i am just wondering if i make a friend as i expected.

um..it is hard question, first of all, i can say, "it is something wrong because she tried to plagiarize her paper twice even if she has on probation." however, i do not understand that school officials used to prove Haley had plagiarized. it is kind contraditory problem. in the comparison with, even though she do plagiarize a paper from internet sources, how could her school officials do check her paper by using internet "Turnitin.com"?finally, i suggest that she has nothing special say to school because she was already cutting and pasting the paper from internet sources twice.

Hangchun Zheng((what you have been doing the last couple weeks)

Last couple weeks is our winter break, it sounds a lot fun for many people. It is also Christmas and New Year. Before the winter break I was so happy that we finally got a time to take off. But when I started my winter break, I was not really happy with what had happen to me. During the Winter break, I went home as usual weekend, but this time is different. Usually I will just go home and chill with my friends, but this time my mom went back to China. That means that I have to work in the restaurant almost every day, to replace her. That Restaurant is our family restaurant, so I have no excuse to reject the job. So the entire break I worked. During my job, I was chef most of the time. The days that I don’t have to work, I will just go eat with my friends and sleep. After New Year, school were about to start, so I just packed everything and moved down to Columbus. After I moved down, I unpacked everything, and call my friends to play poker. That night I was winning, so I fell really happy. Then my roommate got back, and we all talked about our winter break. Between three of us, my winter break were the worst.

Hi! My name is Hangchun Zheng. I came from China around eight years ago. When I first came to United State, I and my family were lived in Albany, New York. We lived there for half year. Then we move to Cleveland, Ohio, because my dad starts a Chinese restaurant business there. After couple of years, my dad sold his restaurant and open up another restaurant in Cleveland also. I attend both middle school and high school in United State. After I graduated from high school, I apply to Ohio State University. They accepted me. So here I am. I had been at Columbus, Ohio for about three months. I really enjoy my self down here. I had made a lot of friends down here. Since my dad is a restaurant owner, that make me want to be a business major. During my free time down at Ohio State University, I always play poker with my roommate and friend. I fell really well when I am winning in the game. Even losing doesn’t make fell bad, because I am always with my friend. Other time, I will go out eat with my roommate and friends.
